What Squeeze Chute do you like/Use?
« on: December 15, 2011, 03:21:54 AM »
Please, tell me what Squeeze Chute do you Use/Like?
Does yours squeeze from both sides? Or from only one side?

I am wanting to buy one, but cost needs to be between $2000 to $3000. One that will work with our Highland horned cattle. Manual scissor type head gate. And would prefer squeeze from both sides. A good used one would be a find, but I never have found one.

I have looked into Longhorn style chutes, they re expensive. $6,000 range

I have been looking at Medina type (Dube Chute is best of that style) but am worried about push back before it gets latched. $2300 range

Preifert makes one, but is pretty light weight. $2200. range
E&W make a great one, but squeezes from only one side. $1,850 range
WW, For-Most, Pearson and standard Powder River are all in the $5000 +
Powder River does make a "Value" chute, light weight, but does everything I want. In $2,500 range.

Ideas? What works for you?

Still Interested in what you use. So please post what you are using.

FYI - I have settled on buying a "Powder River Value Chute" , it opens 35" wide and is horned cow friendly. It is coming with a manual scissor head gate. I am getting it for $2,343.50

Will give a review after getting my system set-up.

My problem with Preifert, it only opened 25 inches, even though it was built a bit heavier.  Seems to be built for polled cattle only.

The "Dube Chute" was also a good option, but was about $2450. in price. My concern was if I had a wild calf, I might get hurt by push back as I am closing the gate on the calf. After cattle are trained to it, I see no problem. That was my concern, but I never got to see one up close either.  It was a really good option though.

We don't bother with a squeeze when we go to shows.  Frankly we don't have the money to buy one or the space to carry one.  We do have one that we built into a run-in shed at home.  Two vertical 4"x4"s are bolted close together near the bottom and the tops can "fold" out to allow the head in (a pan of grain on the other side works wonders!).  We situated it so that the gate into the run-in area can be swung against the animal and chained behind it to her opposite side if extra "security" is required.  The vertical 4x4s are "captured" between two horizontal 4x4s.  We've used this for vaccinations, hoof trimmings and any time we need a closer look than the animal might allow us standing in the field.

I have a Priefert and it works fine for my bull I alternatly open the drop down loops on the top and he has no problem walking through I can leave the top closed for the cows and it will close up small enough for the caves
