Anything that kills beneficial insects isn't sustainable in my mind, so I thought I'd post about my search for a dung beetle friendly pour on wormer here.
After spending an evening with Google, I'm currently thinking about using Cydectin (5 mg moxidectin/mL) pour on, but I'm still researching.
I did find that anything containing Ivermectin hurts the population with the most damage occuring in the summer months when the beetles are most active. Apparenlyt it sticks around for a few months though, so I'm trying to find products that avoid that compound. Note this stuff is used in a lot of dog dewormers as well, and that the parasites are becoming resistant. Its also the most popular dewormer.
I'm curious if anyone else has researched this?
FYI: Dung Beetles are those bugs you may have seen as a kid pushing around small balls of dung. Apparently with a healthy population a cow patty will disappear in about 48 hours from a field. You probably have some Dung Beetles if your cow patties have a lot of small holes in them. Lots of varieties exist, not all roll the dung around, in fact, many will bury it. This activity is VERY beneficial - it opens the soil, maximizes the value for the manure for plant usage, and most importantly in my opinion - reduces homes for flies. Wide spread use of dewormers has eliminated this beneficial bug in many fields.
