What age should a heifer calf be removed from bull access

At what age should I pull heifer calves from herd, away from bull. I want to keep calves in with mother cow as long as possible to allow natural weening and calf to grow to best size before removing from herd.

I guess also, at what age should bull calves be moved from herd, preventing them from breeding cows.

In asking my vet, his experience has been with general breeds. He says 10 months.

Would like to hear from an experienced Highland Rancher, what he/she thinks.
