Here is a classic problem for us small herders...
I'm in the process of buying a new year old heifer. My existing herd is all 2 year old heifers with a 1 year old bull. I'm fine with the bull servicing the 2 year olds (more in another post on that), but don't want him breeding any new 1 year old heifers. Although I have a seperate field, I'd hate putting a new heifer in one all alone, out of sight of the rest of the herd.
Any clever solutions to this one? I hear its pretty low risk that the 1 year old would breed (although not unknown).
